Joint CUD-UEDF Press Release, Jul 19
The people of Ethiopia had a definitive decision on May, 15, 2005 Election. They emphatically denied EPRDF a mandate to continue to rule the country. The refusal by the EPRDF and its lackey, the National Electoral Board (NEB), to accept the voice of the people has derailed the electoral process. This refusal has immensely angered the Ethiopian people that led to a limited, albeit absolutely, peaceful public reaction in early June 2005. Instead of addressing the people’s demand to have their votes respected in a peaceful and constitutional manner, the EPRDF and the government it leads opted to respond to the reaction in a heavy handed manner on June 6, 2005, and the subsequently escalate the suppression, which resulted in mass killings on June 8, 2005. During this brutal suppression and the immediate aftermath not only many have lost their lives, but also a large number of people sustained major and minor injuries and thousands were imprisoned. Djibouti Deports Ethiopian Pilots BBC NEWS
Comment on ER Re: Djibouti deports Ethiopian pilots
The foreful return of the two ethiopian pilots by Djibuiti government is very deplorable. It is a lie to say that they have come willingly and the Flight engineer is remained in Djibuiti. The flight engineer is already back home in Debrezeit within a week of their defection. I personally know that and the response that he remaind in djibouti and the pilots has returned willingly is arranged and orchestrated by Ethiopina tyrant government and given to Djibouti government.UNHCR has to investigate the matter and make appropriate action against Djibouti for failing to respect the convention

Opposition leaders met with American, European ambassadors, expressed their disappointment Representatives of the Coalition for Unity & Democracy (CUD), United Ethiopian Democratic Forces (UEDF), and the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement (OFDM) held a meeting with the American, British, Finland and EU ambassadors last night in Addis Ababa. At the meeting, which was held at the British Embassy, the opposition representatives informed the Western ambassadors that the Meles regime has made it impossible to conduct the vote probing process by continuing to harass, arrest and torture opposition party members and supporters. Ethiopia arrests last two pilots from Air Force transport squadron -
Hit by a series of pilot defectors who disobeyed orders to fire on student demonstrators in recent anti-government protests in Addis Ababa, the government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi jailed two more pilots from the Air Force Transport Squadron on Monday after concluding those who were fleeing the country were once the students of two senior pilots who also defected to Eritrea in 2003. NGO (CDRA) body threatened with ban for "political bias" -
The organisation criticised Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's ban on demonstrations in the capital, and said it had not served its purpose because people had been killed in clashes with police. CRDA had called for an independent inquiry of the shooting in Addis where 114 peoples were shot of which 40 have died at a minimum with additional 17 missing. Click

Addis Ababa City Stopped Collecting Trash
ER-July16 - The outgoing Addis Ababa mayor, Arkebe Oqubay, stopped collecting trash. The city is now full of uncollected trash. Angry over his defeat at the May 15 election, Arkebe and his EPRDF colleagues are also plundering the Addis Ababa city resources. The CUD leadership is consulting with its lawyers on what legal actions to take against Ato Arekebe. Meanwhile, ER has been informed by inside sources that CUD will name Dr Admassu Gebeyehu as the next mayor of Addis Ababa. Official announcement will not be made until the transition committee finishes its work Dr. Admasu Text Interview

BBC Interview with CUD/AEUP Chair Hailu Shawel
Hardtalk interview on July 4th, Stephen Sackur talks to Ethiopia's with CUD/AEUP Chair Hailu Shawel. Ato Hailu stated the presence of international observers played a significant role in protecting the peoples vote in Addis thus resulting a CUD Sweep despite pity attempts by the regime. Ato Hailu also said that the situation in Addis diffe#990033 from rural Ethiopia due to the lack of international observers in the later that resulted the Day Light Robbery of the people votes . It should be noted that the overwhelming dedication and participation of Addis residents left no room for EPRDF to rig the Addis election. The dedication of Addis residents for CUD was priorly evidenced during the historical demonstration that demolished the success of the previous day rally of the Meles regime despite its effort to pay $30 birr and hand out free T-shirts as well as its desperate attempt of forcing/intimidating some of Addis citizens to join its rally.

What a Leader!! June 8: Bloody Wednesday for Addis Residents & Partyting at Sheraton for Meles and Officials
Source: Addis Tribune, Concerned citizen On Wednesday the 8th of June, 2005, when the security forces were busy mowing down with live bullets unarmed civilians, killing over 40 and maiming hundreds of others in the Mercato area, at the Sheraton Addis, in the meantime, a big party was being thrown to government and Addis Ababa University officials in honor of the daughter of the Prime Minister for graduating from a high school. Drinks and all were flowing at the Sheraton Addis where our officials were carousing unmindful and unconcerned about the massacre going on in Mercato. What a shame!

Center: On June 8th; Meles enjoying graduation day with his daughter; he later partied with his comrades at Sheraton.

Letter of Concern to Meles Signed by twelve (12) US Congress Members & High Ranking Government Authorities

Left: Henry Hide, US Charman of Committee for International Relations

Left: Christopher Smith, Global Human Rights Division, SubCommittee onr Africa, Committee for International Relations
Right: Diane Watson, Member of US Congress

Left: Tom Lantos, Ranking Democratic Member, Committee for International Relations

Right: Betty Mccollum, Member of US Congress

US government officials send a strong message of concern to Meles regarding the brutality and shooting of students and civilians using his private army "The notorious Agaazi". The letter also condemns his act in relation to the arrest of high ranking opposition officials as well as students and demands their immediate release. It was revealed yesterday that Meles and two of his TPLF associates Sebehate and Arkebe have amassed from the poorest people on earth 100 million in just one Bank without even counting the embezzled money by other officials and their other accounts and investment. How greedy and cruel can one be to the poorest? Click for Letter | To Express Appreciation

Top: Pictures of London Rally, June 24

Bottom: Pictures of Rome Rally, June 22

It rained cuts and dogs, as they say, in London on Friday afternoon, 24 June 2005 and it only takes to be an Ethiopian to understand why to ignore such a downpour. The patriotic songs were turning the pouring rain into irrelevant hitch. Even non-Ethiopians joined in the rally and condemned the atrocities!. The Rome Rally also ended successfully on June 22.
