Zenawi - BBC’s missed point
The Prime Minister’s promise to establish an independent commission to investigate the important issue has yet to take place. Considering the Prime Minister’s personal responsibility in the matter, such an investigation by a truly independent commission will obviously not be feasible at this stage. But it shall not be forgotten! Editorial

CUD and UEDF Joint Press Release - July 27 As a result of the unjust decisions of the National Electoral Board, the people have been robbed of their voice. In some places, they have been prevented from voting or forced to vote for the ruling party. Now these anti-democratic forces are busy in their determination to form a government by force. The voice of the people cannot be protected while the NEB stands as a loyal agent of EPRDF. If the people's voice is to be respected and peace and stability to prevail, the contested constituencies must be re-examined by a neutral body or there should be a reelection in the 299 contested constituencies in an atmosphere free from beatings, imprisonment and harassment. We call upon domestic and international observers to contribute their share in participating actively and observing the reelection as they have done in the past. We issue this call in the name of the Ethiopian people who have been robbed of their voice. Amharic | English | AFP News | Walta

The Hijacked Election
Why was no "quick count" or parallel vote tabulation available from neutral, independent observers in Ethiopia? The answer lies partially in two decisions take by the Ethiopian Government and the National Elections Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) in the months leading up to the election. In conclusion, the vote tabulation and reporting process for the May 15 election was abused and corrupted by the EPRDF. Any new government that assumes power based on the fraud-tainted results will lack democratic legitimacy. Dagmawi

Board misleads AP on Ethiopian election results A senior official of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) misled the Associated Press by deliberately releasing inaccurate information to the global news wire service, it was claimed. The senior official, who hid his identity under the cover of anonymity, told AP that the “official results” released today were uncontested. In its news wire headlined “Ethiopian ruling party, allies short of majority for govt”, AP reported that the party and its allies were 11 seats short of the majority needed to government.” Full Text

According to the so called NEBE, Ethiopian ruling party and allies 10 seats short of majority needed to form government
NEBE has awarded 103 of the 128 results or close to 80% declared official today to the ruling regime which is a much higher percentage of the virtual tie results announced earlier for the 307 constituencies thus wrapping up close to victory slowly but surely. Opposition parties have called the investigation a failure and accused the board of bias in favor of the ruling party. It is remembered that PM Meles has confessed recently with an embarrassing tone of reluctance during his BBC interview that Ato Kemal Bedri, chairman of NEBE, is his hand picked self appointee. EPRDF accuses CUD, UEDF of hampering the investigation process, The opposition say they will not compromise on stolen votes
The opposition made it clear last Tuesday that the EPRDF, in alliance with the unscrupulous NEB representatives, had put the whole investigation process at risk by deliberately ignoring substantial evidence filed by them. The joint statement pointed out that a CUD witness in Meragna Woreda was mercilessly killed and others severely beaten in an attempt to rob the party of confidence to press ahead with its massive allegations, a charge, which the ruling EPRDF dismisses. Reporter, 07/23

18 additional CIPs deployed to 41 disputed constituencies
Commenting on this, Dr. Merera Gudina of UEDF expressed fear that UEDF's substantiated and well-documented cases may still be ignored by what he called "surreptitious attempt to steal votes." The CUD, on its part, said it would be a complete folly to expect anything different from the last CIPs. The party said it had, nevertheless, deployed able and relevant representatives. Belarus denied political asylum to Ethiopian pilots, 7/22
Source: ER - The Ethiopian pilots who sought political asylum in Belarus informed Ethiopian Review today that the Belarus Ministry of Interior informed them that their political asylum requested has been denied. The Ministry of Interior officials told the pilots that the reason for denying them asylum is that there is a stable political situation in Ethiopia. The officials returned to the pilots their passports and withdrew security protection. As of today, the pilots have no security. They have also been given one month to appeal to the court. The Meles regime buys from Belarus millions of dollars worth of weapons every years, the money that has been donated by Western countries for humanitarian purposes. Urgent Appeal

Protest YARA's Norwegian Prize for Meles Zenawi
SOCEPP strongly objects to this callous position of the Yara group and all those associated with the prize or award. The justification for the prize is that the human rights violator in Addis Ababa has "brought political change, assured food security, protected the environment, contributed to human nutrition and placed the rural poor first". It is hard to believe that the prize givers are talking of Meles Zenawi and Ethiopia unless the criteria is commercial and the usual official Norwegian disdain for the welfare of the Ethiopian people. Meles Zenawi ordered the killing of scores of people just a month ago, jailed thousands, declared a virtual emergency law, committed fraud in a general election and this is the "political change" that deserves a prize? Meles Zenawi has established an ethnic discriminatory political and divisive system that has wreaked havoc in Ethiopia, holds some 15,000 political prisoners in official and ghost prisons and camps, has disappeared dozens of political prisoners. Joint CUD-UEDF Press Release, Jul 19
The people of Ethiopia had a definitive decision on May, 15, 2005 Election. They emphatically denied EPRDF a mandate to continue to rule the country. The refusal by the EPRDF and its lackey, the National Electoral Board (NEB), to accept the voice of the people has derailed the electoral process. This refusal has immensely angered the Ethiopian people that led to a limited, albeit absolutely, peaceful public reaction in early June 2005. Instead of addressing the people’s demand to have their votes respected in a peaceful and constitutional manner, the EPRDF and the government it leads opted to respond to the reaction in a heavy handed manner on June 6, 2005, and the subsequently escalate the suppression, which resulted in mass killings on June 8, 2005. During this brutal suppression and the immediate aftermath not only many have lost their lives, but also a large number of people sustained major and minor injuries and thousands were imprisoned. Djibouti Deports Ethiopian Pilots BBC NEWS
Comment on ER Re: Djibouti deports Ethiopian pilots
The foreful return of the two ethiopian pilots by Djibuiti government is very deplorable. It is a lie to say that they have come willingly and the Flight engineer is remained in Djibuiti. The flight engineer is already back home in Debrezeit within a week of their defection. I personally know that and the response that he remaind in djibouti and the pilots has returned willingly is arranged and orchestrated by Ethiopina tyrant government and given to Djibouti government.UNHCR has to investigate the matter and make appropriate action against Djibouti for failing to respect the convention
