The White House is calling for calm in Ethiopia, where deadly rioting has followed disputed elections. After clashes between police and protesters in Addis Ababa in which some two dozen people were killed, Press Secretary Scott McClellan said violence is "unacceptable." He urged protesters and government leaders to "maintain a peaceful atmosphere" and resolve any disputes by taking them to an electoral commission. Aides say President Bush discussed Ethiopia with U-N Secretary-General Kofi Annan in a morning phone call. Ethiopia's opposition won more than 80 percent of the vote in the capital last month. But the government is claiming victory in the election based on results from rural areas. Opposition parties allege widespread fraud and intimidation, and report that one senior leader is under house arrest.
