New Year to all and a hope that the new year will see positive change in Ethiopia. We in the All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP) are working diligently for this positive change. This attempt is to silence the peaceful opposition and disrespect the rights of the media to gather and disseminate information freely. The AEUP is very disappointed about the activities of the regime;

Dialogue for common ground: pursing a better future for Ethiopia Commentary - Dec 10, 2008

Many Ethiopians believe the charges were politically motivated. Last month's Great Ethiopian Run was marked by constant shouts from the crowd of "Free Teddy".

Washington Update
By Mesfin Mekonen, Kinijit International Council Foreign Relations - Dec 3, 2008
The AEUP assured the Ethiopian people that it will not again subject them to the danger they faced during and after the last national elections, when thousands were beaten and imprisoned and hundreds killed, all guilty of nothing more than peacefully asserting their human and democratic rights. In the future, the AEUP, the only independent opposition party challenging the ruling regime in Ethiopia, will only participate in elections if eight preconditions are met, including freedom of expression and press; an independent judiciary; an independent electoral board; and immediate release of all political prisoners (including the singer known as Teodros Kassahun - Teddy Afro).
